Hi, I’m Lorraine Cruz!
I use they/them pronouns and I’m an interdiciplinary researcher, maker & designer born in the Dominican Republic and based in New York City. I recently graduated from Parsons School of Design with an MFA in Design and Technology, where I developed a systems-based approach to research and a hands-on making process rooted in prototyping and iteration. My background in philosophy and psychology continues to shape how I think, always asking questions, seeking connections across disciplines, and exploring different ways of uncovering truth, whether through theory, science, or design.
In my work, I’m drawn to creating spaces and experiences that invite reflection, often bringing audiences face-to-face with existential questions. Recently, my practice has expanded into exploring more-than-human relationships, particularly with mycelium as both an organism and a collaborator. My work sits at the intersection of ecology, material exploration, and speculative design, always searching for ways to rethink how we relate to the world around us.
